Reading in spring

My eyes got too tired

Too read anymore.

After reading over a hundred lines,

It seems to have clouds covering my eyes.

Supporting my lower jaw with my hand,

Suddenly I felt the rain stopped.

Opening the window abruptly,

I surprisingly found everything green before my eyes.

Is it that leaves have greened spring

Or spring has greened leaves?

Looking up and far to search answers,

I feel they seem to be just at my heart.

Spring snow

Careless, careless,

Do best to struggle painstakingly in spring.

Winter has ended up,

You should imitate the pear flower to give out fragrance

After lonely dancing in the air,

You fall onto the earth quietly without signs.

Is it that

You waste a graceful posture in vain

And die fruitless?

Have no regrets, no regrets.

So long as having some energy left,

I’ll learn from

Flowers in March, cloud in April and rain in May.

Even if I cannot be listed among variegated flowers,

I’ll still moisten the fields

Like sweet rain threads,

So as in future,

Facing the mountain flowers

And green grass,

I can appreciate beautiful sceneries

And express my happy feelings

Without being ashamed

For anything.

听雨,吟诗;

Recite in the rain

Pattering n pattering,

I’s dim n hazy.

Flowers in smoke n trees in mist

Cover the path along the stream.

I support a world with a little umbrella,

Lest I should see cold rain shut silk-tree flowers.

OK, Ok,

Listen to the rain, recite poems;

Recite poems, listen to the rain.

No choice, no choice,

I cannot help missing you;

Home sickness makes me a long way to go.

The rain is too weighty;

My heart is too heavy.

Painting interest

Lotus is in winter; plum is in summer.

Firmly holding colorful brush,

I paint against time order.

Against time order,

Not worth feeling strange.

Letting things follow my own way is proper to both of us.

Proper to both of us,

It adds pleasure;

It makes me delighted.

Appreciating lotus in winter

Is like listening to the rain at a green pool

With raindrops pattering n pattering.

Appreciating plum in summer

Is like watching snow in Xiangshan Mountain

With snowflakes dancing n dancing.

Don’t complain our people are too cold-hearted;

Don’t feel sorry for the boring scenery beside us.

It depends on our own to find beautiful scenery;

Only the one abstained thru our efforts is excellent.

How time flies!

It’s just like an arrow.

Time waiting for no man, we must cherish it.

You’d better follow me to pick up a colorful brush.

Painting excellent pictures with our hand is

Extremely happy.

佳肴不想沾;

Missing

Getting aged, I’m slow of tongue n clumsy of utterance;

Unable to say I miss my son;

I miss you ever more keenly.

I miss you so much that

My body is like an autumn leave swaying,

My heart is like being rat-bitten,

My breath is like misty fog.

My son-missing dream cannot be exchanged

With a thousand pounds of gold.

I saw in my dream that my travelling son got a good luck.

When to miss my son most keenly?

In times of sickness,

In times of lying in bed,

In times when the moon is full,

In times of holidays,

In times of wind n rain,

In times when busy or free,

Who could say clearly which one is the proper time?

A piece of plane-tree-leave is a piece of autumn,

A cold train-drop is a drop of sadness.

Where does the feeling of sadness come from?

Not in the mood for tasting fragrant tea,

Don’t want to touch delicious food;

Eat sugar, but it’s bitter,

Eat salt, but it’s not salty.

Close my eyes and take my ease, sleep with my clothes on,

To see whether I still feel restless?

First, second n third watches passed,

Tossing about in bed, I can hardly enter my dream.

It’s still miserable even if I can.

Heaving sighs adds pain to me.

So many things have happened since separating;

They’re secretly moving like tides.

I feel constant anxiety,

Only because

My aged parents

Always live in my heart.

Butterfly

Only after breaking thru Zhuang Zhou’s dream,

Did she feel the universal is so wonderful!

Daring to learn from rocs,

She widely spread her wings.

Searching and searching,

Riding the winds, she’s come to N.J.

With the news of spring of my hometown.

After sincerely requesting Liang n Zhu,

She borrowed colorful wings from them.

Under the high heaven n the distant sun,

She’s detached herself from the human world.

Gracefully and pleasantly,

After flying from afar, she’s come to U.S.

Asking me if I’ve fixed my time to go home.

Note:

1N.J. is New Jersey, a state of the America.

2Zhuang Zhou and Liang and Zhu are figures in Chinese fairy tale. Zhuang’s dream is about the tale that Zhuang Zhou turned into a butterfly in him dream. The story about Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai is that Liang and his girl friend Zhu turned into a pair of butterflies after death.

Silver-star begonia

Each leave with dots

Is a sky filled with stars.

Soaked through in boundless depth,

It has casted the ever lasting life.

Each flower in blood-red has turned

Into a bright lamp at heart

Which light is used to

Decorate the colorful life.

你欲笑还止;

Cyclamen

Winter is still sleeping but spring has already waked. Christmas, New Year’s Day and Spring Festival are coming like a string of pears strung together with a dragon feeler. Flowers have come into bloom both indoor and outdoor. They please my mind and eyes. But the one which makes my heart leap most rapidly and makes me recall my own stories is no other than the elegant cyclamen.

Having exchanged places with each other,

Dragon and snake have come out of their remotest dreams.

On fine days with nice scenes of prosperity,

Happily holidays have come constantly.

Having good friends visiting us,

Isn’t it a pleasure?

The elegant southern mountain is still snow-topped,

But the downtown has already been decorated with red flowers.

Recalling my childhood,

I feel quite ashamed.

Admiring you, I once painted you in pictures with colored brushes,

In my prime n on my mettle, how free and easy I was!

But it was a pity,

I was too childish n arrogant

To clearly see your true beauty.

It’s easy to paint clothes n face, but difficult to paint bones.

I only made the appearance similar to yours except for the spirit.

I felt shy,

You wanted to laugh but stopped;

I felt ashamed

N wanted to say but couldn’t.

So many years have passed I’m still an oversea visitor.

But we met again though we’re separated with each other

Like two rivers, one flows eastward, the other westward.

Look at you

Closely.

The spring scenery includes seventy percent of feelings.

The arrogant flowers and spoiled willow are not like you.

Note:

I wrote this poem just at the time when the dragon year would pass and the snake year would come. So I say: Having exchanged places with each other.

如凤鸟啄玉;

Aeolian bell

Unwillingly to be lonely,

Far from isolation.

Wind comes from all directions;

Isn’t it a great pleasure?

What do I ask for while firmly grasping the eave?

A little bit wind is enough.

A breeze comes slowly,

I’m like a phoenix pecking jade;

A strong wind tosses,

I’m like rain drops falling into a lotus pond.

Frozen by cold wind with snow I refuse to be mute.

Blown by hot wind and lightening I’m singing happily.

Who is willing to listen to

The heat-frightened crows crowing

And the cold-scared wild geese crying?

I’m afraid

The eloquent swallows are jealous at the ponds

And the singing-infatuated orioles are shy in willows.

No, no, no,

No again.

Cast aside all worries,

Let me happily sing and freely dance

And welcome the wind.

碑林墓海无边涯;

自家立;

Clear and Bright

Mountain flowers are in full bloom;

Willows at the river bank look like smoke.

The east wind is playing with tender grass

And spring scenes are flourishing in the west hill.

Turning over,

I’m astonished!

Layer after layer,

There’s a boundless sea of tombs;

Deadly quiet,

What a large deaf-mute world!

Right or wrong, love or enmity, all former things could be removed here;

Millions of horses and soldiers could be accommodated.

Jade and stone are put together,

Ordinary people and saints live together,

Dead people don’t care about it.

Phoenix and sparrows fly together,

Dragon and snakes live together,

People alive are scare about it.

They’re busy with

Making plans.

Tombstones,

They make by themselves;

Names,

They cut with their own hands.

Think this carefully:

How many people know the names cut on stones?

Only the names written on papers are well known far and wide.

Fame and gain are flowing smoke;

Riches and honors are false flowers.

The coming spring must have its proper place to go;

It’s unnecessary to worry about it.

Just let it go where it likes.

若冷非冷的光;

半明半暗的光;

辉辉煌煌的光;

Autumn night

The moon seems round, yet it doesn’t;

The light appears cold, yet it doesn’t.

In the dim atmosphere,

There is always somewhat a sense of loneliness.

The moon will disappear, but not yet;

The light is half bright and half gloomy.

In the confused dream,

There is always somewhat a feeling of sadness.

Chang E is the one who is most considerate of others;

She has sent the wind to come here passing on her teaching:

Our lives are too short.

How can we afford to hesitate?

Brace up again!

This is the only right thing to do.

The moon is so round;

The light is so brilliant.

Itching to have a go,

I feel much more hopeful.

Warm winter

Winter has just come. But I already saw half flower was in bloom. This reminded me of the problem of environmental protection. I’m therefore half happy half anxious. I’m happy because one can know autumn thru a leave and know spring thru half flower. And I’m anxious because our globe has become warmer, which is not necessarily a good thing.

Autumn has gong and winter has come,

It’s just the time of confusion.

With the cloud and water being warm all corners of the world,

The solar terms are confused.

Red maple leaves have left,

And white snow should come.

But nothing can be done

With the golden cup and smiling face

Shyly appearing so soon

By the stream bank and at the thin fence.

The wind is neither warm nor cold.

I’d like to ask: where are you from?

From the west

Or from the east?

Why don’t you send out snow

But make winter jasmine to blossom instead?

Is it that the flower was failed to tell the season

Or the season was failed to tell flower?

Later spring

After rain, clouds are still covering de mount;

De broken rainbow is hiding behind de remaining mist.

A wind is starting;

Cherry flowers are spread over d sky.

In de north of de little bridge,

Or in de south of de little bridge,

There’re several red or green houses.

De doors are firmly closed;

No one can be seen.

Who’s willing to take pity on d falling flowers?

Only the cuckoos are cawing.

Sending coolness

I don’t take off spring wears;

It’s still a bit chilly in morn or eve.

Moreover, a misty shower

Has given me coolness more than enough.

People say it’s extremely hot in my motherland in July;

Hot weather goes on uninterrupted.

It looks like to toast in daytime;

It looks like to burn at night.

Where will it at end?

I try to send coolness in dream but failed;

The coolness has been detained in US.

I’d like to turn into a cloud horse

And run rapidly to de east.

By covering de scorching sun

N turning myself into de cold rain,

I’m going to eliminate the blazing heat.

Moon

Round n full,

Bright n graceful,

U’r too happy to speak;

Pleasantly but shyly,

U smile pleasantly.

Illuminatin’ all over at night in Moon Festival,

Generously

U’r spreadin’ the light which borrowed from d sun.

D light looks like water pouring down.

Pouring down constantly

On d earth wid sincere feelings,

U’r holey n pure with nothing evil.

Holey n pure with nothing evil,

U’ve purified the vast sky wid no dust at all.

Who cares

About de meddlesome wind?

Just let it push de clouds n order de mist

N force de rain to pour down lightly or heavily.

Umbrella

In fine days,

U’re quietly waiting in a corner of the room.

Once it turns overcast,

U step forward boldly without the least hesitation

N spare no efforts to keep out the mighty storm.

By doing so, you prop up a peaceful world.

Yet after the storm

Whether there is anyone who can still have you at heart?

Fan

The little fan is dainty as a poem

Which can be read thousand times without disgusting anyone.

It not only has metres as de green bamboo swaying in a breeze

But also wears a graceful bearing

As d clear spring coming out of d mountains.

Waving it, I feel that a cool breeze wafting toward my face;

Shaking it, I sense d feelings of poem reading.

I have d little fan at heart n d little fan has me at heart, too.

We show deep concern for each other

In spite of d fickleness of human relations.

Do not vainly heave a sigh because of grieving

Over d falling flowers in d passing spring;

Do not let tears stream down because of feeling sad

With appearance of frost n advent of autumn.

Shaking n shaking, d smoke-like yesterday can be whisk away;

Waving n waving, let’s welcome d brocade-like tomorrow.

Red leaves

An autumn wind came down from nowhere in de sky.

It blew the leaves red at d cliffs,

One clump, and two clumps. in-climbing with my friends.

I picked de red leaves, one piece, n two pieces.

A red leave

Is a red cloud.

Squeezing a few moments from my busy life,

I went mount-climbing.

Happily I held them in hand;

Delightedly I indulged myself in free association.

I am a red leave

N I am a red cloud.

Whistling under my feet, a wind came suddenly

N raised me into the air.

It helped me fly a flight eastward

So that I got into d red leave groves in my native place.

Rainbow

The thunder has just stopped;

The rain has just ceased.

But d mount wind has not ended.

It helps the wild flowers burst into full bloom.

With charming fragrance, they’re scattered into d sky

So as to turn into a gorgeous rainbow.

Crooked

N curved,

The rainbow has one end joining China,

N d other connected with d America.

The two hearts in two separated places,

Mine and my mother’s are closely linked up with each other.

屏息放心窝;

Mountain flowers

White as snow,

Shaped as cup,

It collects dew in d morn.

Dew fills the flower

N wine fills the cup.

Looking at it, I am fascinated;

Smelling it, I am drunk.

Bathed in colorful glow

I pick a flower,

Put it at my heart

N raise my head.

Looking eastward and holding my breath,

I lift the cup highly above my head.

Falling flower

Having made spring wind n spring rain fulfill their wish,

Having helped flower-appreciating persons achieve their aspiration,

U quietly fell down n was crushed into mud.

Being crushed into mud,

How can it be worth being considered as a pity?

Come from the earth n go back into the earth.

Once flower-appreciating season comes,

I’ll go upto branches again

To spread the news about spring.

Cuckoos

One coo, two coos an’ three coos, four coos,

In dream, I suddenly heard mount birds cuckooin’.

Dey’re in de east woods or west woods.

Deir constant cuckooin’ made me sad.

Dey’ve brought me de news of my hometown an’

Askin’ about my schedule to go home.

Cuck n cuck! Grumble n murmer!

If I go home tomorrow,

Do you want to accompany me?

Lantern Festival

A mirror is in de sky

All de families go jubilant.

Wid beautiful music an’ bright lanterns,

People go rejoiced all night in streets an’ lanes.

Rich banquets are full of delicious foods;

Ice balls an’ jade delicacies are prepared to celebrate long-lasting reunion.

But it’s just a dream!

Unfortunately as a traveler way from home,

I can do nothing but let de time pass away.

Even if de joyful festival has come,

I could only heave a sigh in vain.

Heavin’ a sigh in vain,

I’m at a loss in my dream at de end of de world.

It’s easy to have fine scenes in dream.

But it’s also easy to awake.

After awaking, it’s difficult to steady my nerve.

Dis is all because of de scenes in dream about my motherland.

De scenes in dream

Made me sad.

Leanin’ on de west window for a long time,

I just let incessant tears wet my clothes.

My tears could turn into

How much bight moon light before my bed

And how much frost on de ground?

夕阳挂;

千亩滩地;

农人荷锄正归家;

雀儿喳喳;

Home-sick

Evenin’ glow is brilliant,

D settin’ sun is hangin’.

De clear water of Great Canal is flowin’ southward.

Along de river bank, locust flowers give out fragrance.

A hundred-mile-long dike pretects

Thousand acres of farmlands.

Wheat field is like a wavin’ sea;

Melons an’ fruits are honey-sweet.

A cool breeze is fannin’ farmers’ faces.

Dey’re going home wid hoes on shoulders.

On cowbacks, cowboys’re

Shone by colorful evening glow.

Wid songs after songs,

De whips’re cracklin’ aloud.

Sheeps’re bleatin’;

Sparrows’re twitterin’.

Dey made

Dogs barking

An’ crows cawin’.

两袖杨柳风;

Feelings in spring

De pear rain moistens my clothes;

De willow wind blows my sleeves.

De mount birds sing an’ spring comes.

De world is changed.

Yet it’s a pity dat in dis beautiful place here,

Having breached contracts wid sping,

New swallows are failed to come to dis world’s end on time.

I miss my hometown,

But how can I transmit my messages?

Cud it be dat

De bridge near my home was still covered by remainin’ snow

So dat de spring messages have been delayed?

Longing for spring messages,

I often recall de time which has passed away.

An’ my childhood is de one I recall most.

Carrying a basket to dig for potherbs;

Waving a whip to plough de fields;

Threading my way thru flowers to chase birds;

Cutting willow twigs to make flutes to play wid.

Everything in childhood is worth cherishing,

Yet de young heart is most valuable.

如哦如吟;
