Chaihe basin is located in northeast China in the province of Liao Ning. Chaihe’s natural environment can vary from arduous, blistering cold winter nights to beautiful sun drenched summer days. Chaihe basin’s winter weather can be felt for as long as five months. The winter wind can feel like a thousand needles piercing your face, the setting sun is gloomy and ice and snow cover the many large desolate fields. Spring and autumn are only moderately better, bringing strong sand filled winds. Only in summer does Chaihe basin show its true beauty. After a rain fall, the sun shines beautifully upon bright golden yellow corn fields and brown soil. The air fills with the marvelous smell of fresh corn and vegetables.
Sparrows dwell in the vast fields of Chaihe basin. The sparrow has a small body with light brown feathers. They make their homes in the natural grass and branches. Their flying pose and character are rash, almost bold. In the unforgiving season of winter, only sparrows remain while other birds leave. In the winter weather they expand their feathers to the fullest, so that they may resist the cold. Despite the extreme weather conditions, sparrows consistently refuse to be fed by people. If you were to bother a sparrow, you would be rewarded by a flurry of hard pecks.
