Double Seventh Festival of 2015 is on August 20. There is no holiday for this festival.
The Double Seventh Festival is called QiXi Festival in Chinese. It is also known as QiQiao Festival, the Night of Sevens, and the Chinese Valentine’s Day. In other words, the Double Seventh Festival in China is the same as Valentine’s Day in western countries.

This festival celebrates the annual meeting of the cowherd and weaver girl in Chinese mythology. It is on the seventh day of the 7th month on the Chinese calendar. This is an important festival, especially for young girls because it has been seen as great romance.


Legend of Niu Lang and Zhi Nu (Mythology)

The general tale is about the love between Zhi Nu (the weaver girl) and Niu Lang (the cowherd). Niu Lang was a kind-hearted man even though his parents passed away, and Zhi Nu was a fairy from heaven. Even though they fell in love and married to live a happy life, their love was not allowed, and they were banished to opposite sides of the Silver River (symbolizing the Milky Way). Once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for one day.
